The Institute of Transport Economics has conducted a study of the organisation of road safety work at the regional offices of the Norwegian Public Road Administration. There are considerable differences in how the regional offices carry out their road safety work as well as in how they organise it. In some regions, road safety considerations appear to be strongly integrated in the entire approach and working methods of the organisation, while other regional offices apply a somewhat narrow definition of the road safety concept. The regional offices applying the broader definition also have better performance in road safety work. Formal organisational features do not seem to have any considerable effect on the road safety work carried out.
