The extended fatality statistics (DUS) was established from 2010 as a three-year pilot project to conduct joined force investigation of all fatal accidents in Denmark. TØI has evaluated the pilot project. We find that DUS is a reasonable measure, it is well planned and implemented, DUS is well known, the project has contributed to increased knowledge about road fatalities and finally the value of DUS will increase as one gets data from more and more years. Weaknesses of the project are that the findings of limited extent are linked and compared to exposure and research results, there are differences in priorities and interests of the various participants and the results are mostly used at a general level, and not to develop and implement concrete measures.
