Sammendrag

Bodø airport needs a new runway by 2025. This report considers the economic efficiency of building a new airport 900 m south of the present one compared to building a new runway 80 m away. We have assumed that the discounted extra cost of building a new airport rather than just a new runway for the old airport is in the range from 1.8 to 3.7 billion NOK. Moving the whole airport will reduce aircraft noise and promote compact urban development. Discounted benefit was estimated at 4.2 – 4.9 billion NOK, but if nearby agricultural areas at Rønvikjordene can be urbanized, the discounted benefit is reduced to 750 - 1050 million NOK. This calculation assume 1.15% annual population growth until 2065. With a population growth as low as in the median population projections of Statistics Norway, the benefits of the project will be less than the cost, regardless of the assumptions related to Rønvikjordene. The non-monetary consequences are in favor of building a new airport.
