The report presents updated risk figures for different road user groups broken down by gender and age. Risk figures are calculated for different degrees of damage. The risk is highest for motorbikes, second for mopeds, bicycles and pedestrians, and lowest for drivers and passengers in cars. The distribution of risk by gender and age within each road user group shows that the young and elderly generally have a higher risk than the middle-aged. However, the differences between the age groups have reduced over time. To a greater extent than others, the elderly are seriously injured in the accidents in which they are involved. The risks have been reduced for all road user groups and age groups over time, but in recent years the figures have been fairly stable. For the elderly, the risk has also been reduced in recent years, while the risk reduction we previously saw for young people seems to have stopped. For cyclists, there is a large under-reporting of injury figures in the official statistics.
