Models on the edge: Extrapolating Norwegian travel demand models beyond their empirical foundation

The Norwegian travel demand system consists of a national long-distance demand model and several short-distance, regional models. By extrapolating cost and level-of-service variables far beyond their empirical foundation, we subject the long-distance model to multiple stress tests. While aggregate level results do come out as fairly reasonable, corridor level predictions may seem to suffer from too flexible destination choice mechanisms.
