Based on crash involvement data for novice car drivers as well as young moped and MC riders, it is estimated that solo driving with a graduated license with restrictions from 17 or 17 ½ years may reduce the number of accidents. Necessary prerequisites include a high level of compliance with a night driving curfew, restrictions on driving with passengers, and on using a mobile phone while driving, as well as a decrease in moped and MC riding. A requirement of 100 hours of accompanied driving before solo driving will add substantially to the favourable effect. The estimations are based on some uncertain assumptions, and an evaluated pilot study is required in order to provide more precise estimates.
