Two ferry services was provided free of charge between March 25th 2010 and April 1st 2013, funded by the ministry of local government and regional development in Solund in western Norway and Bjarkøy in Northern Norway. The effects of this was increased use of the service, mostly related to leisure activities. Differences between the two ferry services was also observed. These differences can probably be explained by different standards of service.
