Sammendrag

Four new urban arterial roads in Oslo have been evaluated. - Festningstunnelen (opend in 1990) - Granfosstunnelen (opend in 1992) - Sinsen/Storo (Opend in 1994) - Ekebergtunnelen (opend in 1996) The effects on accidents, accident severity and accident patterns are analysed. The evaluation is a before-and-after study, using the number of accidents in the city of Oslo as comparison. The amount of traffic has increased in all of the four arterial roads, at the same time accident rate was reduced. Accident severity was reduced in three of the new arterial roads. It is mainly accidents involving pedestrians, or those situated in junctions that are reduced.
