Sammendrag

The report presents a cost-benefit analysis of new standards for guard rails in Norway. In addition to guard rails, removal of fixed objects and flattening of side slopes have been included as alternatives to guard rails. Analyses show that the benefits of guard rails exceed costs on roads with a high traffic volume. If traffic volume is less than 1,500 vehicles per day, the benefits of guard rails will normally be smaller than the costs.
