Information on commodity flows and transport on detailed geographical levels has long constituted a knowledge gap in Norway. For the planning and management of cities, developing better insights into goods and transport flows within urban areas is therefore desirable. The current report maps, discusses, and compares goods flows into, out of, and within urban regions, cities, and inner cities, across a number of main industry groups. In addition to tons of goods transported, we also discuss the number of shipments and average shipment sizes. While the results presented will contribute with insights at a more detailed geographical level, our work also revealed several challenges within data sources, and particularly the Commodity Flow Survey. These challenges have been taken into account to the extent possible, and are used to improve the basis for further work.
