This project provides a review of literature on car approaches to modelling demand for car ownership, car use and alternative fuel vehicles. As a part of the project a two-wave panel survey as well as a stated preference study was conducted. Based on the collected data different models for demand for private cars, car use and alternative fuel vehicles have been estimated. These models are, joint models for car ownership and utilisation, nested multinomial logit models for alternative fuel vehicles as main car and exploded logit model for the choice of the second car in the household. Other models include nested multinomial logit models for car transaction and vehicle type choice as well as survival models for car ownership and car transaction.
