Sammendrag

The aim of this project is to demonstrate how increased bicycling may help reduce congestion. Being rooted in the thirteen cities cooperating under Cities of the Future umbrella, the project uses data from the national travel survey of 2005. Two different approaches are explored; one based on changes in person kilometers travelled by bike, and one based on changes in the cycling mode share. Both approaches show that an increase in bike use will have modest effects on rush hour traffic. This is so even under optimistic assumptions.
