This report presents estimates of the transport work for cargo ships in Norway. The reason is uncertainty whether the current transport performance statistics underestimates transport work for shipping. Latest survey of the transport pattern for freight vessels was in 1993. Since then there has been a significant transition to flags of convenience of the coastal fleet. The main principle for the statistics on transport performance is that only Norwegian registered vehicles should be included. The calculations presented here are based on raw data from Statistics Norway’s quarterly port statistics.
