Sammendrag

Traffic at Hammerfest Airport exceeded 163 000 passengers in 2017 including 27 000 offshore passengers. Increased activity related to extraction of oil and gas in the Barents Sea will increase traffic to 200 000 passengers in 2040 un the main scenario based on present discoveries. In the highest scenario, traffic will increase to 270 000 passengers in 2040 based om new discoveries of oil or gas. The present airport has limited terminal facilities and airside capacity. In addition the regularity is low and the runway too short for most aircrafts. A new airport at Grøtnes may reduce air ticket prices, increase accessibility and local employment. Hammerfest, the northernmost city in the world, may also become a more attractive place both to live in and for tourists to visit due to better access to the rest of the world.
