The public health campaign «Sykle til VM» (To Bergen on a Bike) had a large catchment area in connection with the championship (UCI World Championships) in Bergen in 2017. The campaign was built around an app based on targeting GPS points and prizes. The purpose of the campaign was to motivate for more activity in the population. The app had over 9000 downloads, but only a third of these used the app to record at least one target point. The results show that those who used the app a lot during the period increased the distance cycled, and women to a greater extent than men, However, this change, given the small sample size, is not large enough to conclude that the app is effective. The app appealed most to those who initially didn’t log any activity in other apps. For future campaigns, efforts must be made to integrate all data collection (surveys) into the app.
