Sammendrag

The report analyses the significance of aviation for Norwegian industry, focusing on selected firms within telecommunication, oil and gas, fish farming, maritime sectors, and humanitarian organisations. Central development patterns of intercontinental air services are analysed, and two scenarios for future development towards 2030 are presented. The Norwegian aviation market is large and on the increase, and that travels are becoming longer. Travels to European destinations experienced a strong growth between 2003 and 2009, following the increase in services by low cost airlines. A precondition for the operation of global enterprises, travel is fundamental to developing new markets and business relations. Complex and knowledge intensive operations require personal meetings and air travel. Air cargo is assuming an increasingly important role, especially within the fish farming industry.
