In October 1999 480 respondents from 8 areas of Oslo were interviewed about their opinions on neighbourhood quality and road traffic. The study will function as a before study before the construction of the Svartdal tunnel.
This working report describes the study and the results of some simple analyses where people’s answers are seen in relation to the level of road traffic where they live. The results show that road traffic is seen as the main problem for neighborhood quality, and that noise is the most important reason for experiencing the traffic as annoying. We also find that those who are negative to the authorities’ efforts for alleviating environmental problems were more annoyed by road traffic noise.
