Sammendrag

In this pilot project the risk of fatal injuries and personal injuries in different transport modes are calculated on the basis of existing data. These calculations are made difficult because definitions of injuries and travels are different in different modes. The possibilities of reduction of transportation accidents by moving traffic from high-risk to low-risk modes are discussed. Through international databases literature on disasters in transportation has been searched for. As few publications were found, a suggestion is made to the effect that theories and methods of studying disasters in other sectors of society should be applied in transportation. The working paper is concluded by proposals for further work.
