Sammendrag

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has commissioned the Institute of Transport Economics to conduct a literature study with the objective of providing an overview of psychological theories relevant for understanding use of public transportation as well as a description of studies of psychological factors influencing transport mode choice. This report covers theories about attitudes, behavioural intention, norms, perceived behavioural control, habits, personal values, emotions, self-presentation, personality, and phobias. Search for relevant literature was conducted in databases of transport literature and psychological literature, and resulted in 85 articles in scientific journals and 34 research reports. The project’s financial constraints do not allow for all studies to be presented in this report. The report covers 23 studies of psychological factors influencing transport mode choice.
