To study the environmental effects of the different stages of the traffic re-routing in Oslo East, a series of environmental studies is carried through. Some 3.600 persons are interviewed and traffic, noise and air pollution levels are calculated.
The report shows that:
- The noise annoyance is considerably reduced after the traffic changes.
- The number of persons annoyed at a given level of noise in 1996 is much lower than in 1987. This "area effect" is due to the many different environmental measures carried out in the area.
- Noise at work or on the way to work influences people's reactions to noise at home.
- The probability to report health symptoms increases with increasing noise level.
