Improperly parked e-scooters represent the biggest issue with shared e-scooters in Drammen, and Drammen municipality has painted dedicated parking spaces to reduce clutter. Using GPS-data, we have examined how painted spaces influence the parking pattern. We have evaluated parking spaces in areas with "free-flow" parking and areas with controlled parking. The results show that e-scooters are parked closer to the painted spaces, and that parking becomes more concentrated. At the same time, the effect is limited to the nearest area, and varies from place to place. The parking spaces have a particularly limited effect if there is another, specific destination in the area that is not in the immediate vicinity of the parking space. There were few parking spaces in GPS-controlled areas, but the results indicate that physical marking improves parking. Painted parking spaces can have a good effect, but the exact placement influences the impact on parking behaviour.
