Tromsø is an applicant city for the Olympic winter games in 2014. The games will have significant regional impacts, for value added, industrial development, employment and demographic development. These impacts will be substantial during construction, while the games themselves represent an extreme period compared to the normal economic activities in Tromsø. In the long run, the impacts for tourism and high knowledge industries are uncertain. It is important to assess this uncertainty during the planning of the games and when the rate of return on the investments are calculated.
