Sammendrag

This report presents the results of the Norwegian foreign visitor survey 2008, with a special focus on data for the summer season (May-September). In 2008 a total of 4.4 million foreign guests stayed overnight in Norway, while 1.35 million were on a day trip from abroad. This means a one per cent increase compared to 2007. Business travel from abroad showed an eight per cent increase in 2008, measured by arrivals, while the number of holiday guests decreased by one per cent. The most important source markets for overnight stays are Germany, Sweden and Denmark. Foreign tourists spent a total of 29 million guest nights in Norway in 2008. Every fourth guest night is spent by relatives and friends. Hotels, camping sites and rented cabins are also widely used.
