In Europe's northernmost city Hammerfest a new airport is planned in order to relieve problems of limited capacity and weak regularity affecting travel demand generated by offshore petroleum activities. Two alternatives are evaluated (1199 m and 1999 m runway). Only the 1999 m alternativ is economically profitable when all costs and benefits for the society are included. The 1199 m alternativ is clearly unprofitable.
