ITS and the role of the public sector

How should public authorities arrange for better and more efficient use of available information and communication technology (ICT) in the transport sector, in order to improve performance? Two areas for ICT applications have been studied in this project: Information systems in uni- and inter-modal freight transport, and traffic information for cars and public transport. Based on interviews with major agents in these areas, as well as other studies and economic theory, possible roles for the public sector are pointed out. Pricing of information from the public transport bodies is also discussed.
