The report presents the results of the Norwegian border survey 1999. Practically all foreign visitors are included in the statistics. Altogether 3,2 million tourists from abroad who stayed overnight visited Norway this year. In addition, 1,2 million foreign day visitors crossed the borders. One fourth of the visitors went on a business trip, the others on a leisure trip. In total, the foreign tourists spent 22,2 million guest nights in Norway.
The number of day visitors in 1999 increased compared to the previous year. However, the number of guests who stayed over night declined by two per cent, while the decline in the number of guest nights was about four per cent.
The report describes the distribution in further detail with respect to mode of transport and type of accommodation used. The seasonal variation in the tourism traffic is also analysed.
