The report "Gender equality in transport" is prepared for the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communication for their work with the National Transport Plan (NTP) for the period 2010-2019. The purpose is to illuminate the different needs of transport and how equality between the genders can be taken account of in the transport policy. To deal with gender differences in transport the report analyses the social context that creates transport needs. Women work more frequently in the public sector. They have lower income and less fringe benefits. Women are responsible for household work. They have less access to cars than men and are more dependent on public transport. More women than men feel unsafe when travelling by public transport. Women have more trips related to household work than men, and their work trips are shorter.
