This report presents the results of the Norwegian foreign visitor survey 2004, including data for the summer season (May–September) 2004. In the year 2004 a total of nearly 3.5 million foreign guests stayed overnight in Norway, while 1.15 million were on a day trip from abroad. Foreign tourists spent a total of 24 million guest-nights in Norway in 2004, of which holiday guests constituted 20.3 million guest-nights. Business travel from abroad showed a considerable increase in 2004. Likewise, there has been a considerable increase in the number of holiday guests, especially those travelling by air. The most important source market for overnight stays is Germany, followed by Sweden, Denmark, the UK, the Netherlands and the USA. The visitors during the summer period mainly used four types of accomodation, namely hotels etc. (26 per cent), overnight stays at friends and relatives (23 per cent), camping on camping sites (19 per cent) and rented cabins (13 per cent).
