The current report discusses the limitations and possible further developments in the Norwegian National Freight Transport Modelling System. We see the need for a simplified user interface along with a thorough model documentation to maintain and create trust in the modelling system. In the short run, within the present modelling setup, we recommend a set of further developments: 1) capacity restrictions in harbor, 2) a more detailed road transport network, 3) expanding the harbor structure, 4) separate transport mode for supply vessels, and 5) empty containers as a separate commodity. In the long run, we believe that the next step in the continuous development of the Norwegian freight modelling system is to implement stochastic elements in the model system. We also recommend initiation of separate urban fright transport models for Norway, primarily for the Oslo region.
