Sammendrag

We conduct a literature review and explorative accident analysis to compare the effects of bus stop design on mobility and traffic accident risk. We found few empirical studies examining the effects of bus stop design, comparisons between studies are difficult and their results conflict. The accident analysis indicates there is a slightly increased risk for a traffic accident near curbside than layby stops, but that factors other than bus stop design are likely to be responsible. Conflict studies, in-depth accident analyses and before-and-after studies are needed to build a solid knowledge base to inform planners about choice of bus stop design.
