The net benefit of closing the maintenance backlog of pavements on the national road system in Norway amounts to NOK 15 billion, according to calculations made by ViaNova Plan and Traffic. Similar calculations of the net benefit of increasing the maintenance budget in the rail sector have not reached a conclusion as yet. We recommend that the agencies in all transport sectors continue to work on assessing the economic value of increasing the maintenance effort.
