The Institute of Transport Economics has on request by the transport authorities in Norway developed a spreadsheet model to estimate economic benefit of measures affecting freight transport. The model for freight benefit is named GodsNytte. GodsNytte is an extension of the existing model GodsExcel (Minken & Madslien, 2011), and is designed to make systematic and consistent estimates of the economic benefits of measures affecting freight transport. The idea behind GodsNytte is to calculate the socio-economic benefits of freight related measures, based on estimated differences in cost and tonne kilometers between a predetermined baseline and defined measures option(s). The documented version of GodsNytte is designed to calculate the economic benefits for up to 20 different measures. To be able to make use of GodsNytte the analysist needs to access the results files (summary.rep) from the Norwegian National freight transport model, or similar, as well as holding basic knowledge in Excel.
