A telephone survey conducted in 5 “bicycle cities” in Norway reveals that bicycle use has increased from 2006 to 2010 according to various indicators: percentage who had used bicycle, number of trips and the number of kilometres travelled. The increase in bicycle use is, however, not larger in the bicycle cities than in the control city of Larvik. Data on self-reported changes in bicycle use supports this. The reason of increase in bicycle use is probably due to general trends and not to specific factors in the “bicycle cities”.
