Choise of safety indicators in road traffic

In this report we investigate all safety indicators within the fields of road user behaviour and vehicle condition. Three to five of these are being selected as the most important ones. The main criterion we use is the strength of the relationship of the indicators to the number of persons being killed or severely injured. For 17 of the indicators the Public Roads Administration gather data through periodical roadside surveys. We present several methodical improvements that will increse the quality of these studies.
