Centralisation and extension of functional regions after 1980 in Norway have changed the geography of labour markets and the provision of goods and services. Improved road network makes it possible for people to choose jobs within a wider geographic area, contributing to the population growth in areas surrounding the centres. Increased regional accessibility and extended service in the local centre have enhanced the provision of goods and services even in areas where the local store has been closed down due to centralisation.
