The Coastal Express supplies a continuous daily service along the coast of Norway from Bergen to Kirkenes, with more than ½ million travellers annually. Many trips, especially longer trips, are motivated by the experience of the voyage. The sheer transport function of the Coastal Express is most important north of Tromsø. If the Coastal Express should operate on a commercial basis, additional transport services at the cost of 35-88 mill NOK could be required.
