«Safe communities» is a method developed to help communities with their work on injury- and accident prevention. In 2004, the county of Vestfold decided to initiate and encourage the use of this method in the municipalities in Vestfold. This evaluation shows that the means used by county of Vestfold to help the municipalities in their work with the “Safe communities” method have contributed to a more systematic and knowledge-based work on injury- and accident prevention. Moreover, the evaluation shows that all the means offered by the county have been useful in the work with “Safe communities” in the municipalities (8), and that economic means alone probably would not have been sufficient. In addition, the evaluation points out which means that should be prioritized in the future work with “Safe communities” and which areas of work with injury- and accidents prevention that needs improvement.
