The increase in speed due to a speed limit increase is estimated on the basis of earlier research. The effect of the speed increase on accident costs, fuel costs, time costs, and environmental costs are calculated, using traffic mix and other variables describing actual motorways. This is used as input for a cost-benefit analysis to decide whether speed limits should be increased from 90 km/h to 100 km/h or 110 km/h. This turned out to be the case on Motorway A (four-lane roads) but not on Motorway B (two-lane roads).
