Impacts of altered transport costs on forestry

Removal of bottlenecks and increased allowable total weight may yield considerable transport cost reductions for timber freight in Norway.

Accelerated infrastructure development, compared to the National Transport Plan, will imply transport cost reductions for the whole sector - relatively more for forest industry, but the over all impacts of accelerated infrastructure development are relatively minor. A combined implementation of measures can to a large extent counteract even large price increases on fuel, particularly for timber freight.

The report presents estimated impacts of altered transport costs on forestry, forest industries, regional development, and the environment. Using alternative scenarios for measures impacting on transport costs in the forestry / forest industry sector, a variety of modelling tools have been applied in the estimations.
