Privacy and Use of Personal Data
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration is the data controller for the personal data collected in the project Travel Survey of National Road Ferry Services. The project is conducted by the Institute of Transport Economics (TØI) in collaboration with Norstat, on behalf of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
The purpose of the survey is to improve knowledge about how Norway's national road ferry services are used, who uses them, and the needs of ferry users.
The information collected will only be used for research and analysis related to the project.
Participation in the survey is voluntary and based on your consent. You may stop completing the questionnaire at any time without providing a reason.
What Information Is Collected?
The survey collects information about your journey, including:
- where your journey starts and ends
- why you are travelling
- how you are travelling
- the time of your journey
- your use of the ferry service
- your experience of and satisfaction with the ferry journey
The survey also collects some background information about you, such as your age, gender, employment status, income, and education.
How Is the Information Used?
Personal data are processed confidentially and in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Norwegian data protection legislation. Access to the data is restricted to personnel working on the project.
The data are stored securely and used only for the purposes described on this page.
When results are analysed and published, only anonymised data or aggregated results will be used. Individual participants will not be identifiable in reports or other publications.
Personal data will be stored for as long as data collection and project activities are ongoing. Once data collection has been completed, the data will be anonymised so that individuals can no longer be identified. The anonymised dataset will then be transferred to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration for further research and analysis. Anonymisation will be completed before the project ends on 31 December 2026.
Your Rights
As long as you can be identified in the dataset, you have the right to:
- access the personal data registered about you
- request correction of inaccurate personal data
- request deletion of personal data
- request restriction of processing
- object to the processing of your personal data
- withdraw your consent
There will be no negative consequences if you choose to have your personal data deleted from the project.
