This report discusses the theoretical underpinnings behind the concept of wider economic benefits of transport infrastructure investments. Spatial Computable General Equilibrium (SCGE) models are presented as a suitable tool for capturing such wider effects of infrastructure investments, and a literature review on a selection of operative European SCGE models is given in order to investigate the state of the art in SCGE modeling. The report ends with a suggestion for further development of the Norwegian SCGE model PINGO. The report is only available in electronic version.
