This report provides an analysis of truck traffic in Oslo, based on network modelling of data from Statistics Norway’s Truck Survey for 2020–2024. It highlights how traffic is distributed across segments, different parts of Oslo, road types, locally-generated and through-traffic, empty runs, and diesel vs. zero-emission trucks. Our analyses show that the majority of truck traffic occurs outside of Ring 2 and primarily on main roads, while municipal roads are mainly used for local traffic. Food and drink products, industrial goods, and general cargo constitute the largest contributors. Approximately 38% of truck traffic are empty runs, with significant differences between segments. The use of zero-emission trucks is increasing, particularly in local traffic and within general cargo, waste, mass and food and drink transports. Electric trucks have so far been most commonly used in the latter two segments. Despite data-related uncertainties, the analyses provide insights that can inform targeted further development of measures for zero-emission freight transport in Oslo.
