Traveller information and travel time variability - a literature survey

Authors: Hanne Samstad
Report nr: 679/2003
ISBN: 82-480-0380-9
Language: Norwegian

The literature survey is part of the institute’s strategy to build up knowledge in the field of intelligent transportation systems (ITS). The study concerns traveller information. Topics include how travellers react to travel time uncertainty and how this should be reflected on the demand side of transport models, by including costs related to travel time variability. On the supply side, unpredictable capacity variations can be modelled. Further, the report looks into how travel time variability and information are analysed in different models in the literature. A challenge for further research is to develop methods for economic evaluation of the consequences of traveller information, by adapting the theoretical models and at the same time search for new ways of data collection.
