In this publication, transport performance figures for the year 1998 are presented together with other relevant Norwegian transport statistics. Domestic passenger transport performance increased by about three per cent in 1998, while road traffic rose by 2.7 per cent. The public transport sector experienced higher growth rates than private car traffic during recent years. Traffic between Norway and abroad increased by eight per cent in 1998. Domestic transport of goods increased by three per cent in 1998. Road transport is most important as far as mainland transport is concerned, while ship is the dominant mode in external trade. Reduced production of crude oil in the North Sea resulted in a slight decrease in oil exports.
