The closing of Ring 1 : Effects on travel times on specific routes

In the project reported here, we have investigated how the closure of parts of Ring 1 in June 2019 has affected accessibility on selected sections of Oslo's inner city. The analyses are based on real-time observations of travel times by car before and after the closure and provide a picture of how the situation developed in the first year after the closure. The report shows that the largest increases in travel times occurred on sections between inner city west and inner city east/southeast, and that the closure of Ring 1 (with associated measures such as the closure of nearby streets) has had little impact on accessibility in other parts of the road network in Oslo's inner city. The findings also indicate that some streets with residential buildings have experienced increased traffic congestion as a result of the closure of Ring 1.
