Social trends - impact on mobility and transport in an urban area

In this report trends related to mobility and transport in an urban area are discussed. The theoretical framework of this discussion is based on the relation between modernity and mobility. The trends discussed are related to changes in lifestyle among young people and elderly, changes in the gendered distribution of work tasks and the use of transport, the development of the leisure society and the relation between ICT and transport. In the report development of housing, work places, transport and environment in the Oslo area are presented, and the relations between land use and transport are discussed. Finally four different dimensions are presented as a basis for construction of scenarios for sustainable urban development.
