Social place analysis of the neighbourhood of Veitvet-Sletteløkka in Oslo

The report presents the social part of an integrated place analysis of the Veitvet-Sletteløkka neighbourhood in Oslo. Social factors like demographic composition, social interaction and local participation are emphasised. The fast demographic shifts represent the greatest social challenge to the community: Older people are Norwegian; the younger represent immigrants. Heavy traffic and many traffic arteries’ barrier effects, physical degradation and loss of local services, have made the local community strongly in need for better common arenas, physically and socially. The place development process in itself and a common comprehension of the local problems at stake, enable further collective action among the various local agents - local authorities, citizens, organisations and businesses.
