The sensory, perceptual, cognitive and behavioural qualifications of 6 years old children to move safely in the traffic are investigated, and compared to those of 7 year olds. The accident pattern of the 6 year olds is compared to that of older age groups. Investigations performed through reviewing Nordic and international research in traffic safety and development psychology, and road traffic accident statistics from Central Bureau of Statistics, show that 6 year olds are less qualified to move safely in traffic than 7 year olds.
