Road accident forecasts are developed based on the national Norwegian model system for travel demand, which is operated by the Institute of Transport Economics. Particular emphasis is put on the the effect of demographic change. The medium term impact of demographic change appears to be favourable, in that there will be fewer young drivers in the next 5-10 years. In the longer term the number of elderly drivers will increase markedly, however without affecting the accident toll to any substantial degree.
