This report analyses the potential for a ferry service in the Drammen region based on a pilot project conducted in autumn 2025. The study is based on a survey of 763 users who tested an electric passenger ferry on selected routes in the Drammen river and fjord. The study is motivated by capacity constraints in the transport system, both on roads and rail, combined with increasing demand due to population growth and the development of new employment areas, particularly at Brakerøya. This highlights the need for supplementary transport solutions. The results indicate a clear potential for ferry services, especially for trips to the city centre. Around two-thirds of respondents report high expected usage. The potential is highest among users who currently travel by car or public transport and have medium to long travel distances, while it is low among those who walk or cycle. The ferry is perceived as an attractive alternative to bus services, particularly among full-time workers and those living further from the city centre. The analysis shows that potential is greatest where ferry services reduce travel time and improve accessibility. Further testing and analysis, particularly of price sensitivity and actual behaviour over time, are recommended.
